The Lunar New Year of Canh Ty 1960 was the first year the whole country responded to President Ho Chi Minh’s call for “Tree Planting Festival”. Up to now, “Tree Planting Festival” has truly become a festival for the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army. This is not only an activity with profound traditional meaning, but also a concrete and practical action to protect the environment, contributing significantly to sustainable socio-economic development.

From February 3, agencies, units and localities in the province simultaneously organized “Tree Planting Festival to forever remember Uncle Ho”. In the communes of Binh Tri (Binh Son), Hanh Thuan (Nghia Hanh), the central province of Quang Ngai, local Party committees, authorities and people launched tree planting in early spring, associated with the movement to build model new rural communes and advanced new rural areas. Mr. Phan Dao, in Phuoc Hoa village, Binh Tri commune, shared that for many years, every villager has been actively planting and taking care of flowers in front of their house.
Every time Tet comes, villagers are excited to plant and take care of trees and flowers along all the village roads and alleys, so the roads are getting cleaner and more beautiful. In Duc Minh commune (Mo Duc), people enthusiastically participated in planting protective forests on the morning of February 7. Thousands of casuarina and banyan trees were planted along the coastal forest. Chairman of Mo Duc district People's Committee Pham Ngoc Lan said that with the motto "planting good trees", in recent years, Party committees, authorities at all levels and people in the district have organized the planting of trees suitable for each locality.
In 2024, the district planted more than 100,000 trees of all kinds at agencies, units, offices, schools, industrial clusters, and traffic routes; planted over 300 hectares of concentrated forests. Thereby, contributing to stabilizing nearly 2,400 hectares of protective forests; 3,000 hectares of production forests and maintaining the forest cover rate in the district at 34%.
In addition, the district focuses on planting large timber forests in a sustainable manner, currently having 900 hectares of forest certified by FSC.
Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ho Trong Phuong said that this year's "Tree Planting Festival" continues to strongly spread the message of protecting, preserving and developing a green, clean and beautiful environment, for the long-term benefits of today's and future generations. Therefore, the movement of planting trees, planting forests and protecting trees is increasingly widespread, with the active participation of local authorities, the business community and people. Thereby, contributing to protecting water resources, combating climate change, helping life become better./.
