In realization of the movement “Youth study and follow Uncle Ho’s teachings”, members of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union at all levels in the central province of Quang Ngai’s Tay Tra district have carried out diverse practical activities.
According to Secretary of the district Youth Union Vo Hong Tin, the the district Youth Union’s Standing Committee has renewed its launching of emulation movements among members, so that studying and following Uncle Ho’s teachings will become more and more effective.
For communities
Since 2014, twice a month, Youth Union members of the military and medical sectors provide soup for poor patients under medical treatment at the district medical centre, using capital mobilized from the union members. So far, an additional 10 Youth Unions across the district have followed the soup provision models, making it become an activity of great significance in assisting poor patients.
In the 2012-2017 period, voluntary activities for the lives of communities by Youth Unions have been carried out regularly. Notable are the program on giving Tet presents worth VND450 million to over 1,500 disadvantaged families; the summer program on mobilizing over 3,000 presents worth over VND1 billion for pupils from disadvantaged families, poor families and beneficiaries’ families. Over the past recent years, the district Youth Union has worked with agencies to build five humanitarian houses worth VND200 million, three boarding houses worth VND400 million to pupils, install five water cisterns and set up 10 water refinery systems at schools.
Youth Union members have also conducted 95 works using VND825 million. Joining the program on building new style rural areas, they have built 1 kilometer of the lighting system, cleaned up over 42 kilometers of canals, repaired and expanded 37 kilometers of rural roads.
Supporting poverty reduction among members
Since early 2016, over 20 members of the Youth Union in Tay village, Tra Tho commune, have done additional work to add money to the fund of the village Youth Union, thus assisting poor members in getting no-interest loans for expand economic production and escaping poverty. So far VND20 million have been used as loans for poor members.
The Tay Tra district Youth Union has focused on increasing members’ awareness in occupation and employment by encouraging them to borrow loans for production and join labor export. So far 421 members have been given loans worth nearly VND8 billion.
From 2012 to 2017, the district Youth Union has worked with agencies to give job consultancy and introduction to over 1,800 members, and help 30 members go to work abroad./.
