Billions of VND collected through women’s unions to support disadvantaged people

According to Van Nguyen Thi Anh Ha, Chairwoman of the Thanh Khe Dong ward Women’s Union, following Uncle Ho’s example, the ward Women’s Union has regularly maintained the operation of locations supplying clothes, books and schooling materials to children in flooded areas. Since the beginning of this year, the effort has received and sent the children over 700 sets of books, 20 packages of books and 800 comic strips. Additionally, the union has regularly visited and cooked meals for patients at the Da Nang Psychiatric Hospital, using a capital of over VND345 million. 

In An Hai Bac ward in Son Tra district, with over 500 families under or near the poverty line, the Women’s Union has collected good-quality used household facilities and food to bring to the “zero-dong” market, providing them to those who are in need. 

According to Hoang Thi Thu Huong, Chairwoman of the Da Nang city Women’s Union, so far 100% of women’s unions in the city have developed and maintained their savings models in obeying Uncle Ho’s example. Since then, they have helped give scholarships, means of livelihood and housing support to 12,000 poor women and disadvantaged children; and carry out social welfare policies with over VND4.2 billion. 

Over the past months, the city Women’s Union has encouraged organizations and individuals to donate over VND2.7 billion to support thousands of families and disadvantaged pupils affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Meanwhile, the Women’s Unions at districts and grassroots levels have collected nearly VND17 billion to support the frontline forces in the fight against COVID-19 and those who were isolated as regulated./.
