Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang suggested that units should give priority to the selection of seasoned and multi-purpose timber trees and closely coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to promote the application of scientific and technical advances and improve productivity, quality and value of crops.
In the 2015-2020 period, the entire army has planted nearly 11 million tress of all kinds, including 10.1 million trees for timber and 850,000 trees for fruits; significantly contributing to greening barren land and hills and proactively preventing and fighting natural disasters.
From the beginning of 2021, the units actively developed plans and planted over 1.3 million trees, up 1.2 times compared to the same period of 2020.
Units in the southern region have prepared materials and seedlings which were planted at the beginning of the rainy season, on the occasion of the 131st anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday, striving to complete the plan of planting 2 million trees in 2021./.
