So said Huynh Cong Hung, Standing Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city Council for Emulation and Rewards and Deputy Director of the city Department of Home Affairs, during a meeting held by the city People’s Committee on October 3 rd to review 13 years of implementing the law on emulation and rewards.

According to Mr. Hung, the city has carried out large scale emulation campaigns, including building new-style rural areas, accelerating poverty reduction, encouraging businesses to support the city’s development, boost start-ups among the youth, and maintaining traffic safety.

Since 2004, 934 emulation campaigns have been conducted, with over 6,000 emulation constructions, models and solutions. Over 112,400 individuals have been rewarded, with 88% being labourers, workers and farmers.

Speaking at the meeting, Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Party Central Committee member, Vice State President and Vice Chairwoman of the Central Council for Emulation and Rewards, said that many emulation movements had been started from Ho Chi Minh city, especially those boosting poverty reduction, building houses of gratitude, and donating money for Spratly Islands. “In the movement in building new-style areas, the city leads the country with all of 56 communes reaching the program standard,” she added.

To gain greater success in emulation, according to the Vice State President, the city should renew emulation work in combination with implementing Politburo Directive 05 on studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and style, and increase the role of Party organizations, authorities and Party members in emulation work.

During the meeting, Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the city People’s Committee, launched a special emulation campaign to mark the 70 th year since President Ho Chi Minh released his appeal for national patriotic emulation (June 11th, 1948), and asked localities to expand specific constructions and models./.
