This is a very meaningful and practical activity to celebrate the 67th anniversary of the liberation day (April 25) and 61 years since Uncle Ho's visit to Co To Island (May 9).

The flag pole project on Co To Island, chaired by the University of Transport and coordinated with the High Command to protect the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, awarded to Co To district, began construction on March 14, using nearly VND2 billion.

The height of the flagpole from the ground to the top is 27.9 m, with the foundation designed to help it withstand very strong winds and storms above level 12.

In addition, the flag pole uses the latest and most advanced techniques, technology and materials, ensuring its durability for over 70 years in marine and island climates.

What's even more special is the electronic system that controls the flag to follow the correct journey according to the time of the national anthem at Ba Dinh Square used for major national celebrations.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, Secretary of the Co To District Party Committee and Chairman of the District People's Committee, expressed his respect for the University of Transport and the High Command to protect the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

He said that the special national relic site of Uncle Ho's statue and the national flag pole on Co To Island are the solid spiritual fulcrum of officers, soldiers and people.

He affirmed that each Co To citizen will be a cultural milestone and a resilient soldier who defends and builds a rich, beautiful and civilized island.

The sovereignty flag pole project on Co To Island has a very important meaning in affirming Vietnam's territorial sovereignty, and profoundly educating national pride and patriotism.

The work, together with the special national relic site Uncle Ho's statue, contributes to consolidating and raising awareness as well as educating the young generation, cadres, Party members and people about the role and strategic position of the sea and islands in the cause of national construction and defence./.
