During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: “If our farmers are prosperous, our country will be prosperous.” Inspired by his teachings, the Farmers’ Union of Yen Chau District, Son La Province, has actively promoted learning and following President Ho Chi Minh’s example through major union movements and specific economic models. Farmers and union members strive to innovate, take bold actions, and enthusiastically compete in labor, production, and business to contribute to the local socio-economic development.

The Farmers’ Union in Yen Chau District has over 10,600 members across 168 sub-unions. Each year, the Union directs its branches to register and implement activities aligned with President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings, such as encouraging farmers to practice thrift, increase production, and strengthen collaboration with enterprises to secure agricultural product consumption. Efforts also focus on promoting solidarity for sustainable poverty reduction, safe production, and environmental protection. All union organizations, from the district level to local branches, register breakthrough initiatives and exemplary models annually.
Nguyen Van Dien, Chairman of the Yen Chau District Farmers’ Union, shared that the union has concretized learning from President Ho Chi Minh through movements such as “Farmers Competing in Good Production and Business” and “Farmers Contributing to New Rural Development and Urban Civilization.” Poverty reduction programs, job creation initiatives, and transitions in crop and livestock structures have helped members increase production value and improve their quality of life. Many exemplary individuals who effectively apply creative and innovative methods have emerged and inspired others.
In Yen Thi Village, Long Phieng Commune, the management board actively mobilizes residents to follow the Party’s guidelines, comply with state policies, and adopt local regulations. They encourage crop and livestock structure transformation and the application of scientific techniques in production. For new rural development, the village contributed nearly VND700 million, built over 2 km of roads, 3.7 km of field access paths, and erected 300 streetlights along the village roads. Residents also contributed labor and VND135 million to construct a modern community cultural house for meetings and events.
In Phieng Khoai Commune, Dinh Thi May from Con Huat 1 Village has consistently achieved recognition for her outstanding production. She introduced new crop varieties and embraced scientific techniques. In 2014, inspired by books and a visit to a pear farm in Lao Cai, she planted 1,000 Tai Nung pear trees, replacing low-yield tea plants. By mid-2018, her orchard produced its first harvest, yielding over 700 kilograms of pears, sold at VND40,000 per kg, earning nearly VND30 million. She gradually expanded her orchard to 4,000 pear trees. With 6 hectares of pears, her family now harvests over 30 tons of fruit annually, earning VND600 million per year.
In 2021, she partnered with local households to expand pear cultivation and established the Kien Cuong Cooperative. The cooperative now includes eight members managing over 70 hectares of pears. Members actively adopt modern technologies, such as efficient irrigation systems and organic fertilizers. The cooperative also formed an inspection team to ensure food safety standards. In 2023, the cooperative produced over 100 tons of pears, generating more than VND4 billion in revenue, with each member earning between VND400 and 700 million annually. Kien Cuong Cooperative has received VietGAP certification and traceability recognition and was honored by the provincial People’s Committee for its achievements in agricultural production and business.
Yen Chau District boasts more than 1,400 exemplary farmer households recognized for outstanding production and business practices. Each farmer’s dedication to labor and innovation represents a concrete example of learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh, encouraging others to overcome challenges, escape poverty, and achieve prosperity on their homeland./.
