Over the past five years, the Ho Chi Minh city Farmers’ Association has increased dissemination on building new style rural areas, and encouraged its cadres, members and farmers to join the program.

The information was announced during a meeting held on December 19th by the city Farmers’ Association to review five years of the implementation of a resolution on building new-style rural areas in the 2010-2020 period, five years of the implementation of a resolution on increasing vocational training and support for farmers, and assistance work for farmers in 2017.
During the implementation, farmers’ associations at different levels have encouraged farmers to join in building rural infrastructure, the irrigation system, the facilities for power, road, school, medical station and recreation area systems with over VND11 trillion; encouraged nearly 11,400 families to donate nearly 34,000 hectares of land to construct infrastructure, including 1,172 kilometres of rural roads, over 327 kilometres of canals, and 263 schools with 5,524 rooms.
In addition, they have instructed the building and development of 300 farms, 71 agricultural cooperatives, and over 150 agricultural businesses.
Notably, over 45,000 poor and nearly-poor families have been assisted with 2,266 televisions; 3,089 water reservoirs, 5,546 scholarships, 30% of the value of 19,830 medical insurance cards, 143 agricultural production tools, 50 savings books, and 13,205 Tet presents; while 957 houses have been built or repaired, using over VND70 billion.
So far, the average income per capita of farmers in the city reaches over VND42 million per year.
During the meeting, Nguyen Thi Bach Mai, Chairwoman of the association, asked for providing advanced technologies and business and production knowledge for farmers, encouraging businesses to create jobs for farmers, and supporting farmers’ sustainable poverty reduction./.
