Duc Xuan commune has 491 families with nearly 2,300 people, reporting a poverty rate in 2016 of 32.8%, mainly among Dao and Tay ethnic minority people. Inconvenient traffic conditions and people’s limited knowledge have become factors obstructing poverty reduction for local residents.

“However, by implementing Uncle Ho’s teachings for the Ha Giang provincial Party Committee and people, local residents have been disseminated information to have clearer awareness on the importance of socio-economic development, thus being open to progress and gradually changing their lives positively,” said Vu Van Manh, Chairman of the communal People’s Committee.

The communal officers have actively reached each village to encourage people to boost production, practice thrift and expand breeding industry. Thanks to their efforts, local residents have been more active in production, applying science and technology into plantation and breeding. In the first half of this year, rice production was recorded on over 77 hectares, accounting for 125% of the plan; and maize production on over 126 hectares, accounting for 100% of the plan. Expanded breeding grounds raised the number of buffaloes to 1,043, pigs to 2,645, and goats to 442.

The Executive Board of the communal Party Committee and authorities have encouraged people to build hygienic living conditions, eliminate backward practices, and shift plantation and breeding structures by focusing on producing tea and animals for commercial purposes, thus increasing profit for local residents.

In the commune’s Phieng Phay village, Mr. Phan Dun Sang is considered an outstanding example in developing domestic economy. His family now owns five horses, nearly 1 hectare of orange and peanut, and nearly 100 poultry.

As a result, his family is among good breeders and tea producers who can earn between VND50-100 million each year./.
