President Ho Chi Minh: Unity, unity, great unity. Success, success, great success

Ho Chi Minh was in his seventies during the 1960s. Although he remained active in strategic affairs until his death, during his late seventies he did not assume the daily role in detailed oversight he had once played. Nevertheless, Ho Chi Minh remained Viet Nam’s most recognized voice both domestically and internationally. Whenever he spoke and wrote, President Ho Chi Minh emphasized building a Viet Nam that was peaceful, united, independent, democratic, and prosperous.

In 1961, President Ho Chi Minh repeated a slogan that, according to General Giap, he had first used shortly after the Viet Minh was founded. That slogan became a mantra throughout the American War and is one that Vietnamese still quote today:

Unity, unity, great unity,

Success, success, great success.
