Sixty five years ago, on September 23, 1958, President Ho Chi Minh and the Government delegation took the train from Hanoi station to Lang Giang station; then he crossed the Red River by boat, arrived at the land of Xuan Tang, and then boarded a ship carrying ore to the Cam Duong Apatite mine.
Here, Uncle Ho went to Mo Coc mine to visit officials and workers who were exploiting apatite ore to produce fertilizer to serve the country's agricultural development; visited local ethnic minorities and presented gifts to Mr. Tran Van No, a Tay ethnic minority person, who discovered apatite ore in Cam Duong (Lao Cai).
In response to Uncle Ho's deep concern and affection for Lao Cai, local people gave Uncle Ho a traditional brocade scarf of the Tay ethnic people in Cam Duong.
Next, Uncle Ho and the delegation arrived at Lao Cai provincial town. Here, Uncle Ho talked with officials and people of Lao Cai ethnic groups, visited Soviet Union experts and officials and workers of Lao Cai Thermal Power Plant.
The first land Uncle Ho visited in the past, now Xuan Tang ward, has developed strongly, becoming a large tourist and industrial urban area in the south of Lao Cai city, with 12 projects, accounting for 75% of the total natural area of the ward. Infrastructure such as electricity, roads, schools, and stations has been invested and built solidly, meeting standards in the direction of a modern new urban area, with 13 civilized streets.
At the river wharf, where Uncle Ho used a boat to cross the Red River in the past, a large, wide permanent concrete bridge has now been built connecting the two banks of the river, promoting socio-economic development and improving local people’s material and spiritual living standard.
Celebrating the 65th anniversary of Uncle Ho's visit, the Party Committee and authorities of Xuan Tang ward launched and completed 65 tasks, including decorating urban areas, concreting 5 residential traffic routes, planting more than 500 trees, and building and donating 3 houses to poor households in difficult circumstances in the locality from socialized funds.
At the celebration, Xuan Tang Ward Party Committee reviewed traditions, summarized the emulation, and awarded prizes to groups and individuals with outstanding achievements in the emulation to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Uncle Ho's visit to Lao Cai./.
