The launching ceremony took place in Subzone 15, Phong Thu Ward, Phong Dien Town. The initiative aims to establish a demonstration model of large-timber afforestation using native tree species, promoting a multi-species and multi-purpose approach. This effort will not only enhance the landscape but also provide a sustainable wood resource for the restoration and preservation of heritage structures in Hue City.
On this occasion, the Hue City People's Committee urged departments, agencies, and localities to implement comprehensive forestry solutions, maintain and improve forest coverage quality, and strengthen coordinated efforts for forest protection, wildfire prevention, and sustainable management. The city also emphasized the importance of nurturing and enriching forests through natural regeneration and the planting of diverse native species.
At the ceremony, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, called on all sectors, local authorities, and residents to actively participate in afforestation efforts with a multi-species, multi-purpose approach. He also highlighted the need to raise awareness and implement effective measures for forest protection, promote large-timber plantations with sustainable forest management certifications, and invest in advanced science and technology for smart forestry management. Additionally, he encouraged the sustainable development of forest-based economies by maximizing the multifunctional benefits of forest ecosystems while ensuring the responsible use of natural resources.
Following the ceremony, participants planted over 1,000 trees, contributing to a greener landscape and a cleaner environment.
In 2024, Hue City successfully maintained and improved its forest management and protection efforts. The city’s forest coverage rate increased from 57.16% in 2023 to 57.18% in 2024. Over 6,670 hectares of forest were planted (7.6% above the target), more than 1 million scattered trees were newly planted (exceeding the plan by 12.8%), and over 21.9 million seedlings were cultivated to support afforestation activities./.
