Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Thanh My, Deputy Commander of the Can Tho City Military Command, emphasized that environmental pollution and global climate change have seriously affected people’s lives and development not only in Vietnam but in many countries. In this context, planting and caring for trees bring great benefits, contributing to environmental protection.
He requested party committees and commanders of agencies and units to actively popularize and educate officers, soldiers, workers and defense employees to be aware of the purpose, meaning and great effects of planting and caring for trees.
After the launch ceremony, delegates participated in planting trees on the campus of Training Area 1. During this launch, the city Military Command will plant more than 5,000 trees of all kinds at Training Area 1, Mekong Delta Shooting Range and barracks of units in the city’s armed forces.
In 2024, Can Tho city strives to plant more than 1.4 million trees of all kinds. During the first week after the launch ceremony, the city expects to plant about 30,000 trees in 9 districts, with priority given to the development of indigenous trees, special trees, and quickly-developing and economically effective trees.
Aiming to achieve the above goal, the Can Tho city People’s Committee issued Plan 32/KH-UBND organizing tree planting in 2024 in order to popularize and educate about the purpose and meaning of tree planting, encouraging all levels, sectors and the masses to actively participate in planting, protecting and caring for trees, and increasing tree coverage./.
