Seventy five years ago, on September 2, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. During his 24 years as State President, on the occasion of the August Revolution and National Day, he wrote articles, speeches and appeals that summed up the reality and gave planning on the Vietnamese revolution.

The following are some historical documents about President Ho Chi Minh with the August Revolution and the National Day (September 2), kept in museums and archives in Vietnam.
1. President Ho Chi Minh’s draft appeal read at the 10th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day at Ba Dinh Square in 1955
In his appeal, he clearly stated the changes in the world and in the country, glorious victories, difficulties, as well as missions of the Vietnamese revolution in the coming time. In the beginning of the appeal, he wrote that 10 years ago, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam announced its establishment. After years of glorious challenges, Vietnamese people happily congratulated the 10-year establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. That day was a glorious day for the Vietnamese people, also a day of mutual joy for the oppressed peoples and for the people of the world who love peace.
And finally, he affirmed that Vietnam would bravely go forward with the unified force of the entire people, with firm confidence in the glorious future of the Fatherland, with the spirit of victory of a hero nation. In the heroic resistance over the past 8-9 years, Vietnam won, in today's political struggle, Vietnam would also win.
2. President Ho Chi Minh’s draft speech read at the 14th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day in 1959.
In the article, he affirmed that that day was a joyous day for Vietnam, also a joyous day for the brothers in the socialist countries, for the countries of the friends in the national liberation movement. Vietnam's economy, politics, culture, diplomacy, and national defense were progressively better and would be more advanced. Vietnam was determined to build a peaceful, united, independent, democratic and prosperous country. “We are bound to win,” he wrote.
3. President Ho Chi Minh’s draft closing speech read at the 15th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day in 1960.
He emphasized that this was the first time in history Vietnam had a solemn, jubilant and joyful National Day celebration. There is a paragraph in which he said that while congratulating the 15th National Day, “we all remember our people in the South who are heroically fighting against the US – Diem regime. We send them love and promise them that: Once all our people unite and patiently fight, our Fatherland will definitely be united."
4. The draft article about the 15-year-old Democratic Republic of Vietnam by President Ho Chi Minh published in the Journal of Socialism and Peace Issues (Soviet Union, September 1960).
The article described the achievements, contributions and pride of the Vietnamese revolution towards the path of national liberation for the people of the brother colonies. In the beginning part, President Ho Chi Minh wrote: “On September 2, our people will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Our people are very proud to be the first among the colonial countries to have battered brutal colonialism and won national independence, breaking the foundation of French colonialism and opened the way to liberation for the people of the brotherly colonies; Our people are even more proud of being the first of the newly liberated countries to become a member of the great socialist family of which the Soviet Union is the glorious eldest brother.
Indeed, this was the first time in the history of Southeast Asian countries thata truly democratic state that workers and peasants was built up in Vietnam. At the end of the article, he affirmed: "With the belief and unity of our people and with the generous help of the brother countries, we absolutely believe in our success."
5. President Ho Chi Minh’s draft letter to the youth on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, 1965
According to President Ho Chi Minh, youth is a great social force, one of the important factors determining the future and destiny of the nation; the main force in many fields, undertaking jobs that require hard sacrifice, health and creativity. Therefore, he always put great faith in the Vietnamese young generation, the future masters of the country. In his letter to the youth on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of National Day September 2, 1965, he praised the country's youth for enthusiastically participating in and making great contributions to the construction and defense in the North and the southern liberation. He gave the revolutionary orientation for the youth “loyal to the Party, pious to the people, will fulfill any tasks, overcome any difficulties and defeat any enemy.”
