During a working visit to Slovakia, the Vietnamese delegation led by President Ho Chi Minh visited Horne Saliby on July 18th, 1957, leaving deep a impression and affection for the whole town.

The ceremony welcomed a special witness, Ms Froda, 71 years old, who, as a teenager, presented flowers to President Ho Chi Minh when he visited her town.

“It was my and the town’s honour to welcome a big friend of the Slovakian people,” she said. “The image of a close and simple President will never fade in our minds, as well as the memories of  Saliby region residents.”

Ms Froda and Mr. Pavol Dosoby, Horne Saliby town Mayor, said that the 70 year-old book of the town still has the photo of President Ho Chi Minh giving flowers to Ms Froda and the autographs of the Vietnamese delegation members.

In his speech before the inauguration of the copper plate, Trnava regional President Tibor Mikus confirmed that President Ho Chi Minh, the big friend of Slovakia in general and of Trnava region in particular, is the one who laid the foundation for the traditional friendly relationship between the two countries. “The preservation of President Ho Chi Minh image in Horne Saliby town is an honour for the town and for Trnava region,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue stated that Vietnamese people always remembered the sincere affection and precious assistance from Slovakia during years of struggle for national liberation and construction, adding that Vietnam is grateful to Trnava region and Horne Saliby town for laying the copper plate commemorating President Ho Chi Minh, the talented leader of the Vietnamese Party, State and people, national liberation hero, and the world cultural celebrity.

“The commemorative plate will be a symbol for the Vietnam – Slovakia friendship, so that Vietnamese people living and studying in Slovakia look to their homeland and Uncle Ho,” he said./.
