Nguyen Anh Tuan in Hiep Binh Chanh ward, Thu Duc district, used to live in hard times. Receiving a preferential loan from the city for agricultural production and training from the district Farmers’ Association, Mr. Tuan has invested in building facilities for production of apricot flowers. Using the loan worth over VND3 billion, he has invested in planting a new variety of the flowers and applied new production methods and gained success. His family’s living standards have continuously improved with an annual income of over VND500 million. Thanks to the profits, he constructs 20 small flats for rent, earning over VND800 million per year.

Being instructed on how to follow Uncle Ho’s teachings 5 years ago, he said he was very moved. “Reading and listening to Uncle Ho’s teachings, we farmers can practice ourselves to live helpfully,” he said on Sai Gon Giai Phong (Sai Gon Liberation) newspaper. Since he has become more prosperous, he helps disadvantaged farmers and other poor people by teaching them planting techniques, and giving the poor sponsorship, scholarships and funds.

When residents in village 4, Phuoc Loc commune, Nha Be district register to follow Uncle Ho’s teachings, Nguyen Van Hai registers to donate his land to build roads. Accordingly, he donated 270 square metres of land worth VND1.89 billion to expand and concrete roads in the village. When being asked why he donated such a large area of land, he smiled and said that he wanted to be an example before encouraging the others to contribute land and money to build roads. “Following Uncle Ho’s teachings means no sooner said than done,” he said.

Nguyen Van Hung in Thanh Xuan ward, district 12, said that studying and following Uncle Ho’s teachings, first, meant to be kind and good citizens in any conditions, circumstances and positions.

To become a helpful citizen in society, Mr. Hung does not hesitate to do any mission assigned by the ward. Each day, he diligently encourages donations for the fund for the poor and disadvantaged children, as well as land donation for road expansion. The most proud achievement is road 138 built from his active encouragement of people to donate land to become a road of over 3 metres wide and 100 metres long.

Like Mr. Hung, Ms Thanh Thi Thanh Thuy, a farmer in Long Binh ward, district 9, registered to become a helpful person for communities. Being a good producer in successive years, she successfully encouraged the shifting of brick production that pollutes the environment into orchid planting which brings high economic value for farmers. As she leads a more prosperous life, each year, she puts aside VND50 billion to contribute to building rural traffic constructions.

Being honoured to be admitted to the Party in 2014 and elected to be a member of the ward People’s Council term 2016-2021, in her action plan, she used her actions to prove that she is a helpful person for communities.

The deeds by farmers in Ho Chi Minh city has helped make following Uncle Ho’s teachings a regular work, thus boosting poverty reduction among farmers./.
