At the age of 90, Mr. That has been collecting documents and pictures about President Ho Chi Minh, forming a precious trove of documents about Uncle Ho, which is enough for him to create a library about Uncle Ho at his home.
Nguyen Trong That, 90 years old, with 68 Party years old, comes from Phu Cang 2 village, Van Phu commune, Van Ninh district, the southern province of Khanh Hoa, is considered to be the person with the largest such collection of Uncle Ho memorabilia in the coastal south-central region.
He was born in Ha Tinh province and was a teacher of literature in Ha Tinh province before moving to live in Khanh Hoa province in the 1980s.
According to Mr. Phat, during his time in Ha Tinh province, he nurtured the goal to collect images and documents about Uncle Ho. His dream came true in 2007 when a movement on studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s ethical example was launched in his residential area. His plan to collect Uncle Ho documents was supported by surrounding people.
Since then, Mr. Phat has collected over 500 documents and images about Uncle Ho, which is achieved by few people. To gather this sizeable collection, he initially cycled across the commune, district and surrounding regions to seek the documents. After that, hearing about his deed of great significance, people presented him the documents by themselves. Many people across the country sent pictures of Uncle Ho to Mr. Phat.
He added that his documents about Uncle Ho are arranged into categories and presented chronologically, to serve those who want to study Uncle Ho and to educate pupils.
Mr. That shows Uncle Ho’s documents and images on his house’s wall for the audience to imagine the great leader’s life and revolutionary career. He can spend hours telling stories and reading poems about Uncle Ho, and introducing his huge collection about President Ho Chi Minh./.
